Comments: Meet Mumita the Destroyer; Jabbar the Powerful; Soora the Organizer; Bari the Healer; Jami the Assembler; Noora the Light; Darr the Afflicter; Sami the Hearer. These superheroes are THE 99 - superheroes powered by Islam! Dr. Naif Al-Mutawa and Fabian Nicieza are the co-writers to THE 99. This is a fantastic group of superheroes who demonstrate their strength and courage in the face of incredible odds! Dr. Naif Al-Mutawa is the creator of THE 99 and I do believe he has a hit! You get character histories on each and every character, which places you closer to the character as you follow their adventures.

You even get Naif’s (the creator) life story and he tells about when he was young, ran away from home, how he admired the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew and his talk of East meets West as superheroes are all amongst us. The origin takes us back to 1258 AD and Hulagu Khan conquers Baghdad. All of the greatest knowledge of Baghdad is stored in the library called Dar-Al-Hikma. The librarians are protected as the city is destroyed by Khan and his hordes. The librarians store all of the library’s writings, by capturing the spirit of the books in 99 gems. They could not hand copy the books and light is power and with light, the spirit of the books are absorbed in the 99 gems. When Khan’s warriors go through the library, they throw the books into the Tigris River and the ink from the books flow down stream. There the librarians carefully place the gems to absorb the knowledge of the written books, so the knowledge is not lost. Later on three gem bearers hold onto 33 gems each and a great fortress is built, the fortress of knowledge - The Husu al-ma’Rifa. As things progress to present times, the Noor stones (that contain all of the knowledge) are sought out. A Noor stone saves a man’s life, this man is Jabbar the Powerful, who has Hulkian strength and size and destroys part of the city and causes havoc, all by accident. A doctor removes 142 shards and granules from Jabbar’s body. Jabbar learns he is the first of THE 99! The artwork in this comic book is spectacular, you will cheer for these superheroes! THE 99 is entertainment that takes you to a new level, it will glaciate your mind and vibratile your soul with a shock value of mind-blowing events! I’m telling you, this is a fun read and get started now on the origins of these new superheroes!
