Little is known about Batina the Hidden, whose mastery of her gemstone gives her the ability to become invisible. She surreptitiously visited THE 99 a few times, always undercover, which led to a misunderstanding—THE 99 initially believed Batina was an enemy.

In truth, Batina has lived for many years in a remote retreat, invisible to human instruments, high in the Himalayas far from the domain of mountain climbers and inhabitants. This Retreat is a haven for gem-bearers, particularly those, like Musawwira or Sami, who have difficulty coping with their gifts. The Retreat works hand in hand with THE 99 Steps Foundation, and members of THE 99 frequently travel between the two.

While Batina is intensely curious about the outside world, she isn't yet equipped to deal directly with it. She prefers to lurk in the shadows, observing but not participating in the lives of THE 99.
