Character Profile:

Hatem Al Johary's father worked as a laborer on the construction of the Bibilotheca Alexandrina, the new Library of Alexandria. Hatem's father found an odd, attractive stone in the ruins of the original Library. He took it home and gave it to his son on the boy's fifteenth birthday.

Soon after, Hatem discovered he no longer got tired when playing sports, and that he could run for twenty hours straight without resting. Realizing that his son was keeping something from him, Hatem's father took the stone from him—and Hatem immediately collapsed from exhaustion.

Hatem's father then sought out the Chairman of the Bibilotheca Alexandrina, who explained that Hatem's gem must be a Noor Stone. The chairman suggested that Hatem's father contact Dr. Ramzi Razem, a researcher in this field who might be able to help Hatem develop his gifts. But Hatem's father refused, insisting that his son's gifts be used to help his own family.

Dr. Ramzi has since made contact with Baqi, who has joined THE 99. But Baqi still lives with his family in Alexandria, and uses his powers locally.
