When Marvel's superheroes aren't busy saving the world, they're also getting licensed around the world. Last year Marvel rolled out an Indian version of Spider-Man, and recently announced a deal with the Teshkeel Media Group that will see Marvel's characters released in Arabic throughout the Middle East and North Africa. With a population of 250 million, the potential market in the region is huge, says Teshkeel general manager Sven Larsen, "Over 50% of the population is under the age of 24. Collectively, it's the fifth largest children's population in the world." Currently, Disney characters dominate the Arabic children's comics market, but Teshkeel and Marvel hope to change that.

In a move indicative of Marvel's continued push with global licensing, the Kuwait City based Teshkeel Media Group today announced that it has signed an agreement with Marvel to bring Arabic-language Marvel comics, magazines and trade paperbacks to the Middle East. The multi-year agreement will see the comics translated into a variety of languages throughout the region, with Teshkeel reporting availability of the Marvel editions will run from the Arabian Gulf to North Africa. Neither Teshkeel nor Marvel commented on any adjustment to content specific to the new marketplace.

Regional Publisher Announces Wide-Ranging Partnership With Marvel Entertainment
NEW YORK, Oct. 24, 2005 -- Teshkeel Media Group, KSC, announced today a comprehensive agreement with Marvel Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE: MVL), a leading global character-based entertainment and licensing company to bring Arabic-language Marvel comics, trade paperbacks and magazines to the Middle East region. The agreement was announced by Naif Al-Mutawa, CEO of Teshkeel, and Bruno Maglione, President of Marvel International.

Under terms of the agreement, Teshkeel will engage in a wide-ranging multi-year publishing program which for the first time will bring Marvel's world-famous comic books to the Middle East in local language. The Marvel comics will be distributed throughout the region, from the Arabian Gulf to North Africa.
